Payment processing for African cross-border business

Paystack, Flutterwave, and Stripe, compared for receiving payment from clients or customers across African and international markets.

Payment processing for a business operating across African and international markets needs to handle local payment methods, multiple currencies, and payout to a local bank account, which is where global- first processors and Africa-first processors diverge most.

Paystack, now part of Stripe, covers Nigerian, Ghanaian, and South African payment methods directly, including local bank transfer and mobile money options that international processors often don't support natively, this is the processor this site runs on for its own service payments. Flutterwave covers a wider footprint across African countries with a broader set of local payment method integrations, useful for a business collecting payment from customers in markets Paystack doesn't yet cover directly. Stripe itself is the standard choice for a business primarily invoicing international clients in dollars or euros, with the widest set of integrations for accounting and invoicing software, but weaker native support for African local payment methods on its own.

A business collecting payment mainly from African clients does well with Paystack or Flutterwave depending on country coverage. A business invoicing mainly international clients, with African payment as a secondary need, is often better served running Stripe as primary and adding Paystack or Flutterwave for the African portion of the business.
